Wheel of the Year Series: Yule!

Yule (Full) preview

The pagan sabbat of Yule was originally celebrated mid-winter, but was moved back to the winter solstice by the Catholic priests who were trying to convert pagans to their flock.

Decorating with holly, ivy, evergreen and mistletoe, feasting with family and friends, the exchanging of gifts, even the imagery of the mother and child are all lifted from pagan celebrations.

At Yule, the earth Goddess gives birth to the oak God who brings the new born sun with him into the world.
