Strawberry Hill Tutorial

Strawberry Hill

This tutorial was written by Dianna Richards of Digicats (and Dogs). Any resemblance to any other tutorial, published or unpublished, living, dead or undead, is purely coincidental.

Please do not rebroadcast, redistribute or otherwise claim this tutorial or any part there of as your own work.

Items you will need to complete this project:

The new Strawberry Hill taggers kit by Gemini Creationz. This kit is available for purchase at Sophisti-Scraps.

Tube of choice. I am using Hippy 2 by Lacy Clagg. You need a license to use this tube which can be purchased at the Lacy Clagg tube store.

Wee Scots Lass mask #234, which you can download HERE.

Font(s) of choice.

Note that H# and V# refer to Horizontal and vertical coordinates on your canvas grid. Make sure you have View, Rulers checked in order to see the ruler grid.

When I say "Add to your canvas" I expect that you will copy and paste it as a new layer, unless otherwise state in the tutorial.

This tutorial assumes you have a working knowledge of PSP. It was written using PSP X1, but should work in PSP 8 and up.

Open a new raster canvas, 800 x 800 pxls, flood fill white.

Open SH_paper1. Select --> Layers --> Load Save/Mask --> Load Mask from Disk. Find Wee Scotts Mask 234. Make sure the "fit to layer" box is checked, then click on load.

Layers --> Merge --> Merge Group.

Open SH_Paper14, and resize to 75% (600 x 600 pxls). Add to canvas, centered at H350, V350. Using you pick tool, rotate the canvas clockwise 20 to 30 degrees.

Return to SH_paper1. Copy and paste the merged file to the canvas, centered.

Open SH_white flowers, and add to canvas, centered at H220, V450. Using you pick tool, rotate clockwise slightly (about 10 degrees).

Open tube of choice. I am using Hippy 2, Raster 7, by Lacy Clagg. Copy and paste to canvas, centered.

Open SH_Frame1, copy and paste to canvas, centered at H430, V370. Using your eraser tool, carefully erase the bits of the tube that show along the bottom of the frame.

On the pallet menu, click on the frame layer to activate it.

Open SH_Cloud, resize to 65% and paste onto the canvas, centered at H580, V620.

Open SH_String and add to canvas, centered at H400, V660.

Open SH_watercan, resize to 50% and add to the canvas, centered at H650, V600. Using your pick tool, rotate slightly clockwise (about 10 to 15 degrees).

Open SH_Strawberries3, resize by 65% and add add to canvas, centered at H400, V650.

Add a drop shadow to your tube and to the strawberries. I am using Offsets of H & V -10, Opacity of 60%, Blur of 25 and color back.

On the materials pallet, set your foreground color to none, and your background color to #000000 (black). Using a font of choice, add the copyright information to the tag, just under the strawberries. (I am centered at H400, V75o) and am using Georgia, 8pts, black, centered. I then resized it down further using the pick tool.

You may also add your "tagged by" information at this point if you wish

Resize your canvas by 75% (600 x 600 pxls) and save the artist's copy as a .pspimage.

On the materials pallet, set your foreground color to #e8ad52 (gold) and your background color to #f6c76c (pale gold). This matches the colors on SH_paper1.

Using the Freestyle Script Font, 16 points, Bold, centered, add your name to the canvas, centered around H100, V100. Use your pick tool to rotate the name counterclockwise, matching the tilt of SH_Paper14.

Open SH_felt Strawberry, resize to 25% and add to the canvas, at the end of the name. Give it a bit of a clockwise tilt. Exact location will depend on the length of name you are using.

You may then drop the White background, merge and save as a .png file, or keep the right background, merge, and save as a .jpg file.

That's it! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. If you should have a problem, please feel free to E-Mail Me and I'll be happy to help you out.

Sicko

I'm recovering and seems like everyone else is getting sick. I initially thought I'd have no use for either Southern Scrapz "Got the Sniffles" taggers kit or Lacy Clagg's Dr. Jaimi posers, but I was wrong on both accounts.

Joan brought the case of the sniffles which I likely got into the office. She's always in my office bugging me, so it should be no surprise that I caught it.

Dr. Jaimi

I'd done this tag and sent it too her with a note that if she didn't get well soon, Dr. Jaimi was going to stick that needle into her scrawny old behind. She's still coughing and didn't listen.

Dr. Jaimi

These next two I did while I was off last weekend in between sleep periods. My waking periods lasted from 20 minutes to an hour so in both cases, the tags were spread out over several sleeps as it takes my computer a phenomenally long time to save things sometimes.

Nasty as Nyquil is, I'd prefer it and a bowl of chicken soup over Dr. Jaimi's alternative.

Dr. Jaimi

And my teddy bear. Actually, I don't have a teddy bear, I have a stuffed tiger, named Teary, after another Terry I know, who's a paramedic. He always makes me feel better (the tiger, that is).

Julie tagged me for the 8 things me-me so here we go:

8 things I am looking forward to

1. Going back to sleep.
2. Getting my new car so I can
3. Go and watch baseball!
4. Vacation!
5. Seeing Tyler & Alex again (and yes Joe, you too.)
6. Going to the beach.
7. The start of GCL season.
8. Did I mention going back to sleep?

8 things I did yesterday

1. Made Italian Vegetable Soup. (Now you know what's for dinner for the rest of the week.)
2. Worked on the Chocolicious Kit.
3. Sent the preview for Toad U So off to the Goodie Blog Train. (Yup, it's back from the dead. Go vote on the new color scheme. Please pick "Sailboats" because I'm pinked out already.)
4. Found the Miss Diamond's feather wand that's been missing for 3 years.
5. Dreamed of Eli. Wished he'd come back from Wisconsin.
6. Read (Scottish Brides Anthology)
7. Finished George and Amy's tax return. Got them a nice fat refund.
8. Washed dishes (goes with thing #1)

8 things I wish I could do

1. Hire a maid.
2. Find a cure for arthritis.
3. Get good enough at designing to sell my kits in a store.
4. Go back to sleep.
5. Go on Safari.
6. Go back up to Canada again. I haven't been to Toronto in a while.
7. Go visit Eli in Wisconsin.
8. Did I mention go back to sleep?

Groovin' in the 60's

One of my clients - an older woman - called this morning and wanted to know if she could come and see me at noon. Despite my reservations, I agreed. Noon came and went - and I finally ran out to Micky-D's to pick up something to eat and still no client.

She finally calls and says "I'm sorry I didn't come in, but I've been sick, and I got sick again, and I mislaid some of my papers. If I come in early tomorrow, can you still Git-R-Done?"

What am I? Larry the Cable guy?

How ever, I have a nice, great, big Iced Vanilla McCoffee - something they never thought of, back in the 1960's, along with cultural icons like Larry the Cable Guy. But there were certainly some icons we associate with the 60's era...

These tags use the scraps from the Groovylicious taggers kit by Krissy's Scraps. The poser is part of the Hippy 2 set by Lacy Clagg. I like this one better than Hippy 1, she's quite sweet. LOL!

Groovylicious

I've been trying to guess what this week's theme is going to be, but...Krissy put out vehicle templates, Sox did a whole 3-D collection of swamp dwellers, and Creative Intentions, Created by Jill and Scraps by Jessica all put out animal related CU products. So...I'm clueless!

The Lava lamp and the little TV were templates released before the "Groovylicious" kits came out, and like I said, I should have guessed. I guess I was hoping for better hints this week? We shall just have to wait and see what Saturday brings us.

Groovylicious

Records -- a collectors item now -- and mini vans -- now replaced by SUVs. And of course the peace symbol, which is still around, but which is also now known as the "V Sign" or Victory sign.

Groovylicious

I used several of Cameron's masks on the backgrounds to groovy them up even more. Not that they needed it. And VW Bugs, well...I saw one coming down the street the other day and said "What the heck is that?" My how times change!

When did 8 track tapes start making the rounds? I remember them starting to phase out while I was still in high school, so that was the 70's. That doesn't really look like an old 8 track player though.

Groovylicious

I really liked that bracelet and was really sorry it pixelated out as much as it did then I enlarged it. I nearly went and grabbed the full size kit so I could have a bigger version of it, but that seemed silly. Oh yeah...and the big flared bell bottomed jeans and the Paige hair cuts! LOL!

Groovylicious

I like the point of view on this. It was a bit of challenge to get the elements to work with the poser. But I thought this turned out rather well.

I think there's a couple more tubes in that pack. Jay released a "Swinging 60's (um, the big band era swung, hun, not the 60's) so I might see what I can do with those and her kit. I really need to do some tutes, I just haven't felt much like writing. Too much stress in my life right now.

Batty

I just love Lacy Clagg's art work and of all of her poser tubes, I think Batilda is my favorite. Yes, she's a little Halloween imp, but I think she just likes to have fun. So here is my Valentine's Day spin off using Batilda.

Lover's Lane

Lovers Lane 1

This tag uses scraps from the Lover's Lane kit from Scraps with Attitude. I'm not a "pink" person, it's not one of my favorite colors, however I'll tolerate "Hot Pink". When the ECHL Tallahassee Tiger Sharks hockey team first started up, the team colors were listed as black, silver and "Tiger Shark Red" which turned out to be hot pink. It was changed to the second year to red, but I still have a sweater with the hot pink on it, which is such a giggle.

The "heart" alpha is from Created by Jill and I got it at Heavenly Taggerz. This is the alpha I was looking for when I wandered into US4T and ended up spending more than I planned on. I'm probably going to do that again, but I was waiting for the Creative Scraps sale first (which started today).

Sweetheart

The gold heart shaped frame is from the Valentine Pendants CU element pack from Soxsational Scraps. The "Valentine Word Plate" is by Scraps with Attitude. You can snag it at Creative Scraps (on sale). The Sweet Pea Bears are from Tammy's Scraps and maybe I'm crazy, but they seem to have vanished out of the SWA store?

Batty kind of looks like she'll bite you if you call her "sweetheart" in this one. LOL!

Kiss Blvd.

The masks used in all the tags are from Wee Scots Lass.

Naughty

And what girl wouldn't want jewelry for Valentine's day? Although I think like most, Batty wanted a Diamond Ring, LOL!

S.W.A.L.K.

Batty little thing

The scraps for this tag and the next two are from the "S.W.A.L.K." taggers kit from Untamed Angel. I love her posers, but I'm not a big fan of her scrap kits. But I end up buying them because I like the previews. In effect, this kit is very similar for her "Heaven and Hell" kit with elements from her CU Valentines Elements pack thrown in.

I have noticed that I'm more likely to buy a kit if the preview looks snazzy, more than for any other reason. For example, I just recently started buying kits from Fi's Fault because she's changed up her previews and they appeal to me more. In the past, I just sort ignored them because the preview was sort of boring.

The lyrics are swiped from a Queen tune.

Batty is the word I use to describe...

This is a play on the lyrics from "Cherish" by the Association, in case you couldn't figure it out. I was fighting with the text tool again, but at least the glitter didn't mysteriously vanish this time around.

I see somewhere along the line I also moved the background paper too far to the left, and we have a white streak down the right hand side. I need to go and fix that tonight.

Batty 1 so true

This time the lyrics are taken from the song "Sunny" by Dusty Springfield. Nothing really exciting - or difficult - on any of these tags, but they were fun to do. :)

I hope you enjoyed viewing them as much as I enjoyed putting them together!
