A bit of Medical Mayhem

Gothic Inspirations

I've mentioned before that I like to save the best for last, but I'll be honest in saying my interest in the things medical is not all that strong. I don't like doctors. I don't have alot of faith in them. Probably not surprising, given my medical history and the fact that there's not a lot they can do to take care of what is wrong with me.

So, this time, I snagged the Gothic Inspirations part of the train first, and that's what I played with, first. Jessica said of her kit that it's "Really a cluster frick of a mess.

"I couldn't decide which way to create, and it ended up just a huge mixture of stuff between vanity/vintage/medical/mid evil."

Actually I got more the feeling of the late Victorian era, about the time Jack the Ripper was terrorizing Whitechapel. So I sort of went that route with the tag.

It's a bit uneven, but it's not a bad kit by any means, so be sure to stop by her blog and snag it.

Designed by Stina

Stina's kit was the other one is was really interested in playing with, as she did Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I think she went a bit overboard, but you have to give her props for inventiveness.

I can't really tut this because the masks I used are no longer available, but I still can't redistribute them. Hope you like it though, I was having fun with the blood. :)

The alpha in both is by Sarah Bryan, part of the Gothic Inspirations Hallows Eve Blog Train.

Crazed's Creations

Now for something a little more caring is the Tender Loving care kit from Crazed's Creations. Danielle had to go in for a physical Friday so she could get her gold card so that Rowena could register her for Kindergarten NEXT year before all the spots fill up. She's already been shut out of the magnet school, so it's a private academy for her at this point.

They had to draw blood - just a little prick on her finger - but she's been through so much even that little bit scared her. She could probably use one of those big fluffy bears.

The Mother's Love alpha is by Aleah's Mommy Designs from a template by Scrappin' Cop.

PSP Girl

I had originally planned to do something more traditional than the witch doctor's kit, and use SSLisa's nurses, but boy, am I glad I hit on a different idea. To say Lisa's nurses are overused on this train is a bit of an understatement!

This portion of the train comes to us from PSP Girl. She has some nice FTU templates on her blog, BTW, and if you're looking for her designs, you can find them at Scrappetizing.

The bloody mess alpha is courtesy of Free Digital Scrapbooking.

HippieDaze Scraps & Such

HippieDaze's templates were well represented on the train, but no more so than by HippieDaze herself. She also has a couple of Lisa's nurses in her kit, but I decided to use one of the Dr. Jaime tubes from Lacy Clagg.

I have no idea where the red felt alpha came from as they're no TOU or preview with it. I got around Valentine's Day, but it worked well with the medical theme.

I'm not really happy with the way I did the frame, but I'm not feeling well enough yet to bother with fixing it. :P

Wicked Princess

Wicked Princess has an amusing sense of humor, so I found her idea of Nurse Naughty was kind of fun. This is from the add on which is a part of the train. She has a taggers sized kit too, by the same name, available at Aussie Scrap Designs.

It seems Cookie has found a new way to take care of her patients...only two to a bed, please!

Eye Opening Designs

Eye Opening Designs use her portion of the train for Diabetes Awareness, which I thought was awesome. I have several friends who are diabetic, one who is insulin dependent. My Grandfather, after years of drinking, was diagnosed with Diabetes as well, but his manageable with diet and exercise.

Clocks become very important to a diabetic, as you are on a set schedule and don't have a whole lot of leeway. Great work and a worthy cause.

Anyway, that's seven and I haven't decided if I'm going to do the rest of the train. I really need to get back to designing - which would be easier if I felt better. Needless to say my ride so far has not cured what ails me.

Are you Ready?

J4T Grand Opening Ad

Halloween & Pets

Halloween has become one of the biggest holidays in America.

Halloween is an annual fun-filled celebration, but it didn't start out that way. The history of Halloween dates back 2,000 years to the superstitious Celts, who lived in Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Their calendar year began on November 1st, so October 31st was their New Year's Eve.

The Celts believed that on this night ghosts, goblins and witches came back to earth and wandered through the villages and countryside trying to return to the homes where they formerly lived. Because the Celts were frightened - even terrified - they tried to "blend in" with the spirits by dressing up in ghoulish costumes so they would be taken for fellow spirits. The frightened villagers also placed gifts of fruit and nuts on their doorsteps to appease the spirits and prevent them from entering their homes.

When the Romans conquered the Celts, some Roman and Celtic traditions were combined. For Romans, November 1st was an important holy day called All Hallows Day (or All Saints Day). Eventually, October 31st became All Hallows E'en (evening), which is known to us as Halloween.

As European cultures meshed in a new America, we developed our own Halloween traditions over the years. Parties for adults and children became the norm, and they focused on games, foods of the season and festive costumes. Between 1920 and 1950, the tradition of trick-or-treating was revived. Over the years, several animals became closely associated with this American holiday season (including the eerie howl of the werewolf). Let's look at some of those animals and their connection to Halloween.

A Little Batty

Bats - These creatures of the night have always gotten a bad rap; they are associated with vampires and the walking dead all because of their cousins, the vampire bats. Bats are nocturnal and mysterious. Just the name vampire bat conjures up spooky images of Count Dracula and other eerie blood-sucking creatures of the night. There are 900 bat species and the vampire bat is the only one that likes blood - about two tablespoons a day. Lucky for us, they prefer the blood of birds and cows to that of humans.

Black Cat Cross your Path

Cats - You rarely see a Halloween witch without a black cat. The Halloween black cat is always in a fear-provoking position, with back arched, fur on end and eyes glittering. For thousands of years, black cats have been regarded as mysterious creatures with supernatural powers, associated with witches and death. It was believed that witches could change into cats; in fact, they could make that change nine times. Some people believed that cats were the spirits of the dead. The cat's pupils - narrow slits in the daytime, but luminous globes at night - linked him to the moon and emphasized his ability to see into the future.

Spider Cider

Spiders - Who likes spiders? Raise your hand. The spider and its web represent dark, scary places haunted by ghosts and goblins. Spiders were tiny enough to hide in a witch's cloak and whisper instructions in her ear.

Happy Halloween

Well, we've come a long way since those long-ago days of fright and superstition. We no longer fear black cats and spiders, or worry about witches and ghosts. So if you hear your doorbell ring on Halloween night, have your bowl of treats at hand and open the door with confidence. The little goblins at your door are only there for candy!

Medical Mayhem is on it's way!

Chicken Soup

The Medical Mayhem Blog Train leaves the station on Monday, October 26th, and there's some great themed kits on the way for you!

I mentioned before that my contribution is a bit off the beaten path. Frankly I could do with a little holistic medicine right now as I came down with a lovely head cold Thursday, and have pretty much been sleeping the last two days.

I did manage to crawl out to Sweetbay this morning and replace my dwindling reserves of juice and cold meds, but I could really do with a nice bit pot of chicken soup. Sadly I did not have enough energy to make it that far, so I guess I'll settle for a can of Vegi Soup instead. ;P

Also just a reminder, but time is running out on some of the snags currently available. If you've not yet grabbed my Witchy Woman kit, you need to do so by Midnight, tomorrow, because once the Medical Mayhem Train goes live, Witchy Woman becomes a PTU kit.

Both the Fangtasia and the Ghost Train freebies expire on Halloween Night.

Of course, don't forget to get dressed up in your Halloween best and come Trick-or-Treating here at Digicats, because I'm going to have a special, very limited edition kit for you to download. It's only going to be available for 24-hours, then it goes away, so make sure your on time!

And finally the Gothic Inspirations Autumn Blessings CU Train takes off on November 1st. This is a great train for designers and scrappers alike and having looked at some of the previews that have come through on the designers list, you won't want to miss it!

Anyway, it's back to bed for me...but remember to come back Monday - same bat time, same bat channel - for some more snagging goodness!

Ananya from Flock of Fairies did these awesome animated tag using my Fangtastic! taggers kit.

You can still snag it for free if you haven't done so yet, but you've only got until Halloween night...then it becomes pay-to-use.

Fangtasic 1

Fangtasic 2

I love the animated bats on this one!

Fangtasic 3

With this tag, she used a poser by Jeanne at www.needfulthingscomments.com. The first two tags use the "Just before Dawn" posers that are included in the kit.

She's got a couple of others on her site - you can check them out HERE - along with some tags made with kits from some of the other designers on the train.

Great stuff! Thanks for writing and showing me your work!

Witchy Boop

Note: be sure to scroll down to snag your freebies from the Fangtasia and Ghost Train blog trains and stop back Monday the 19th, Monday the 26th, and of course Halloween night for more goodies!

Witchy Boop is one of the new posers from Perfect Poser and I thought she was quite adorable and a nice change from cookie, so...

Boo Crew Danielle

I did this first tag for my friend's daughter who now wants to be Tinkerbell for Halloween. It changes - sometimes more than once a day. The scraps are from the "Boo Crew" taggers kit from Scraps with Attitude by Missy. Please don't ask me what it up with the SWA store - looks like a server crash to me. The creepy faced alpha is a PTU one from Nutshell Creations.

I love the little clip art kitty cat in the boots.

Spookylicious - Nikki

The scraps from this tag came from the Spookylicious taggers kit by Creative Intentionz. This was part of last month's collab. I've sort of gotten away from the collab thing. I was never a big fan of them - either to buy or make - but I guess they do sell products.

I did not get the collab while it was out, I just bought a couple of pieces of it now that the individual kits are on sale.

Spookylicious - Schnegge

Another part of the Spookylicious collab, this time from Schnegge's scraps. The looking fur alpha is another PTU one, this time from Heaven Dreams.

Mwahahahaha Charly

The scraps for this tag came from a FTU kit by Creative Intentions called Mwahahahah. You can snag it from her blog. The frame is by Jo's DZigns and was a part of the Ghost Train Blog Train as was the Be Afraid Alpha by Myst Designs.

Midnight Circle - Carol

I know I said I wasn't buying any more kits from Jay, but she put out a couple of Halloween ones that looked interesting, and had them marked down to 99 cents. The scraps I sued in this tag are from her Circle Midnight taggers. The Halloween Alpha is by Polarfuchs Treasures Digital Designs.

Boopsie looks quite frieghtened in this one.

All Hallows Eve - Dianna

Boopsie looks confused in this tag, which was done using scraps from my All Hallows' Eve tagger kit. This kit is now available for purchase in my stores.

It's a party Boopsie, you're supposed to be having a good time!

The Halloween Alpha is again by Polarfuches Treasures Digital Designs. It was a FTU one and you got both styles in the download.

Amazing Discoveries

Monday was "Columbus Day" in America, a sort of quazi-Holiday. Teddy Roosevelt proclaimed it a holiday during the great depression when he felt Americans needed something to cheer them up. But given the controversy over Columbus' "discovery" of America, not all states observe it.

Some call it "Indiginous Peoples Day" for the tribes that have always lived here; for some it's Explorer's Day and for others it is Discovery Day.

I discovered something on Columbus Day this year. I pulled my health insurance statement on line and "discovered" that the reason my perscription cost jumped from $15 to $70 about six months ago was not due the change in the medication, but rather to the fact that Walgreens has been billing it on my "Walgreens Savings Club" card and not my PPO plan.

I went in yesterday, rather ticked off. Frank rebilled it, but the refund has to come from coporate, so I have to wait for it. Needless to say I will not be renewing my Walgreens Savings Club card in January as all it's done so far is cause me a bunch of headaches.

They should rename it the Walgreen's Headache Club Card.

In any case, Team Trouble is sponsoring the Medical Mayhem Blog Train later this month, it leaves the station on October 26th, and I came up with an interesting spin on the Medical theme. I decided to go tropical and seek out a witch doctor to cure my ills...he'd probably be cheaper than my PCP, and probably a good deal more competant too.

Witch Doctor

This was my first take. The tube is an older one from SSLisa, it was part of the original Paradyce Lost collab. I was really unhapp with the potion bottle, so you'll noticed that got changed. The bone alpha is courtesy of Free Digital Scrapbooking and is not included in the kit.

Witch Doctor

Tanya is (c) by Perfect Posers. I'd left the white background on this because I figured PhotoPrude would hae a problem with the way she was dressed and I'd have to host on Picasa, but so far, they've not deleted the image. The corregated cardboard alpha is a PTU one by Elyane Araujo. It's not going in the kit either.

I really dislike doing alphas, in case you haven't noticed. LOL!

Witch Doctor

The jungle is a dark and dangerous place. After spending a lot of time on the mask in the first tag, I cheated and added several from Medi. They look kind of tropical witchy-doctorish, sort of.

The Jungle Katt poser is by Perfect Poser. Charly has opened her new store and needless to say, I've already spend a good chunk of change there.

The toon giraffe is a CU item from Aussie Scrap Designs. I decided to throw a few in to lighten the mood of the kit up. The Wild Thing alpha (not included) is by Deanna's Dreams.

Witch Doctor

This is the last of the tags I did and you can see the changed potion bottle. There's a good deal of skulls in it, in case you haven't noticed, so it does have a bit of a Halloween flavor to it as well. The Safari Alpha is courtesy of Designs by Nora.

While you will have to wait a bit for this one, be sure to stop back tomorrow to pick up your Fangtasia Blog Train freebie. There are some killer kits on the train. I set the slide show up last night, so you can check them all out HERE.

Remember that the train runs on the designers' local time so not everyone will have their part up at the same time. You can expect mine around Midnight, Eastern Time. Be patient, everyone will get their part up!

If I only had a brain....

This is a tutorial I did last night using the "Trick-or-Treat" taggers kit by Grunge & Glitter Scraps. It's one of the kits I picked out as a birthday pressie:

Pissed Off Pussy

I love this tube. This is the look I get from Miss Diamond when she's ticked off at me for something. And yes, she does have little fangs that stick out like that. LOL!

You can find this tutorial at Di Before Dawn tutorials. And now...on to the Ghost Train tags...

Oh wait...what? I didn't upload them? Well, what kind of a freaking idiot move was that. Check in after lunch, I'll put them up when I run home at noon. Geeze....

Two tuts and seven tags

I know, you all are looking for more Ghost Train tags. LOL!

First however, Rose from Rose's Tuts and Tags did an awesome tutorial called "Beware" using my All Hallow's Eve taggers kit.

Beware

Rose writes great tuts, so it's a bit of an honor to have her tut one of my kits. You can find the tutorial at Rose's Tuts & Tags.

I also wrote a tutorial, for my friend's daughter, Danielle. She's five and pink and sparkly are her two big things, so it's pink and it's sparkly!

Pink Gossamer BCA Tutorial

I used the FTU BCA kit from Gothic Inspirations for it. I love the dragonfly charm BTW, and while Jessica says pink is not her color, I think she did a good job with the kit. You can find this tutorial at Di Before Dawn tutorials.

So...now that that's out of the way, on to the Ghost Train tags...

Ghost Train - Lorraine

Lorraine from Artlor was feeling under the weather, so I did a tag in the hopes of cheering her up. She didn't give us a lot in her kit though. The paper and the Edward cutie are hers, the fog is mine, the frame is from Jo's DZigns, part of the train, and the Ghost was a freebie Sky Scraps. The Halloween Town alpha by I Don't Give a Scrap is also a part of the train.

Ms. Devyl is (c) by MediEvil Creations and was one of the freebies available on the Poser Emporium board until late last month.

Ghost Train - Missy

Sticking with Ms. Devyl for a moment, I then swing over to Scraps with Attitude and Missy's contribution to the train.

This is a fun part of the train, but then most of Missy's stuff is fun.

Ghost Train - Julie

Next we get to Bits'N'Bob's offering. I've not seen this witch before, so I'm assuming it's one of Julie's renderings. I think I like her Hallow's Eve kit better though, I was a little disappointed in this one. I have yet to play with her Monster Mash one.

Ghost Train - Susan

Back to Medi's posers again, and what has proved to be the best kit I've worked with on the train so far. HippieDaze is the designer and I loved it so much, I actually went out and bought one of her kits over at SWA. Fabulous stuff. And her templates are awesome BTW. If you've never checked her out before, do so and be sure this kit is on your list to snag.

Ghost Train - Stina

Stina recently started designing and I keep looking at her kits, because they look interesting but to date, I'm not willing to part with $3 for on. Her part of the train does not make we want to part with $3 for one either. It's a perfectly acceptable part of the train and there's nothing wrong with it, it's just now outstanding.

The little vamp girl is one of Bits'N'Bobs renderings. Fierce looking isn't she?

Ghost Train - Lis

Another new designer on the scene is PSPGirl who just started selling with me out of Scrappetizing. Prior to that, all of her stuff as FTU. She does good work and I really like all the colors in this kit. While I've not picked up one of her PTU kits, I have no doubt I that I will be doing that sometime in the not so distant future.

The Alpha came with the kit, BTW, and I'm using one of Medi's cookies.

Ghost Train - Alyssa

The final offering for today is from Alyssa's Scraps and Such and I had a lot of fun with this done. I love the glitters. The alpha is by Myst Design and is also part of the train. And isn't the black cat adorable?

The witch poser is a new one from Medi and frankly I don't think we need any more Halloween posers. Time to focus on Thanksgiving/Winter/Christmas. I'm already planning my Big Black Christmas Cat kit. Heh!
,
